the Paris Metro
The Metro is one of the great joys of Paris. When I was 12 years old even I could figure it out, which line to take, what direction to walk when transferring between lines. Of course coming from a one industry town when you're 12 is one thing but as an adult I've come to understand that's one of the main reasons Seattle won't ever become a major metropolitan city,... there's no subway.

The first few days with Nelly we spun around town using the Metro but then the workers went on strike in sympathy with the other unions. Which turned me into a collector of rare goods. All of a sudden a common Metro ticket was something from days gone by, a kinder and more gentile time.

All of a sudden what she had been saying about a big strike was hitting home, especially when walking in the winds of late November.

A collectable ticket
