Day 34

What a breath of fresh air! Sure it was blazing hot with hardly any breeze but after the crowds and tacky tourist shops of Avignon, one little trip over the river to Villeneuve-les-Avignon and you're right where you want to be.

Normally I stay away from photographing pets and certainly from sites that feature someone's cat, but it was so hot we saw two brothers taking a siesta.

Don't get me wrong, if you really want to visit Avignon then do it. Consider a bus tour that parks, with a guide who walks the group around the town and explains things.

Nice and quiet, with the homes of real people just living their lives. A café here and there, a few restaurants, a butcher, an old lady looking out her window with her dog, that's the kind of pace you can enjoy and the architecture is nearly identical to Avignon although not on as grand a scale.
But if you don't really need to go there, especially in the summer, then don't. Just go across the river and enjoy a real town with real people, park along the river, see the famous bridge and just enjoy life.
