Day 26
I saw at least 3 funerals that day, one being a small gathering of friends and family watching from the rear of a Mercedes hearse as the doors were opened and the wooden box was shown to everyone while a guard made a few notes.
It was broad daylight and walking inside, looking at the floor I noticed some moving shadows. I knew those shadows were coming from the furnace smokestacks. They were just working away.

After that we found Yves Montand and Simone Signoret, the first French actress to win an Oscar. Some old lady was taking a jar out of her plastic bag, filling it with water and then putting her flowers in it for Yves. I never did find Edith Piaf, the Sparrow of Paris.

Then we went toward the crematorium where the funeral directors were taking someone inside, they were in a box.
Looking at the places for ashes I remarked that it was about the size of an apartment in Paris that I could afford, that and the neighbors were quite peaceful. Chantal only laughed, displaying the fondness the French have for cynicism.
